The Role of Heat Capacity Anomaly on the Magnetocaloric Effect

It has been shown that for the accurate determination of magnetocaloric effect the specific heat capacity should be accounted. This is because during phase transitions, the magnetocaloric effect is typically accompanied by peaks in specific heat capacity that strongly depend on temperature and magnetic field. If this dependence is ignored, the resulting adiabatic temperature change will be significantly overestimated. A method for calculating the magnetocaloric effect during ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic phase transition in Fe-Rh alloys has been proposed, and has been found to agree well with experimental results.
